The demand for healthy, sustainable and alternative protein sources is rising. Our solution: insect-based nutrition.

Considering climate change and the increasing world population, effective circularity and sustainable food production have never been more crucial. To alleviate the strain that food production imposes on natural resources, our mealworm-based ingredients can play a pivotal role. Our insect ingredients constitute a natural source of high-quality protein, neutral flavors and versatile textures, offering vast clean-label food development opportunities.

Sustainability benefits

  • Limited GHG emissions: At Innovega we believe that reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions is critical to control global warming and climate change. That’s why we’re so enthusiastic about making insects the meat of the future. Compared to poultry, pork, and beef our mealworms produce a tiny fraction of the GHG emissions. Our commitment to GHG reduction doesn’t just stop at direct emissions from our farm but extends to the entire supply chain.

  • Efficient food conversion: Mealworm protein powder is high in protein and a source of iron. It has a unique texture and cooks and browns like meat, making it a great alternative for conventional meat products. The flavor and color can be customized enabling endless versatility.
  • Low land: At Innovega we use very little land because our vertical farming method enables us to stack mealworms in layers, maximizing our productivity per square meter.
  • Low water use: Compared to conventional livestock or even many plant-based protein sources, our mealworms require a tiny amount of water to grow.
